Kousa dogwood is a deciduous tree with a vase-shaped habit when young, but becoming more rounded with age. Dark green leaves on layered branches provide a backdrop for star-like blossoms in spring. Pinkish-red fruit develop in summer and persist into fall (unless devoured by birds). The foliage turns purple and scarlet in the fall and after leaf drop, the exfoliating, mottled, tan and grey bark add winter interest to the garden. Best planted in full sun to part shade. Grows 15 - 20' tall and wide. Deer resistant.
